Well it's been a while, and you've all probably guessed that blogging may not be for me!!!
Training wise I've just done 19 miles and I'm upto 8 yassou's!! Big thanks to the rest of the girls for getting through the weeks and the miles, and to Sam for running the 19 on Friday at 7am. It was a great route starting in Burton and going to Barton, Walton, Catton, Edingale, Harleston, Haunton, Clifton Campville, Lullington and finishing in Coton in the Elms.
Still doing the pilates and some swimming hopefully it's helping, and having a regular back massage.
Ashby 20 in a couple of weeks aiming for 3hours 30.
Trip update, train and hotels booked, tesco vouchers for Disneyland, boat trip and aquarium arrived just need to sort out restaurant.
Beetroot update.... lost count but pee still pink!!!

Running and Cake
We're pushing through the miles and yesterday we did 14, starting and finishing in Coton in the Elms. We went through Catton, Edingale, Haunton, Climpton Campville and Grangewood, it's an undulating route finishing with a short up hill and then down till the watch read 14 miles.
The inspiration for the run was a piece of homemade chocolate caramel at the finish, this is probably the cause of running a 9min 30 sec last mile!!
Beetroot intake ...lost count although I have approx 300g Monday to Friday.

Training Update
Well, I didn't practise what I preached in an earlier blog and if you have seen the facebook photos then you would have seen the result of not cutting your toenails, needless to say it was a tiny cut, but there was no permanent damage done.
Well the run went well on Saturday, ahead of schedule we did 13.1 miles, a very nice route up to Hoar cross, one day we will stop for a spa!!!
Well there's more speed tomorrow......
and a beetroot update, approx. 2400g eaten....

The Need for Speed!!!!
Well it's that time in the training plan when we add some 'speed', the purpose is to improve stamina and here's how the Washland women like to do it.
Step 1: Find your local running track - Shobnall
Step 2: Complete 2 laps as a warm up - 1/2 mile
Step 3: Run 2 laps in 4 minutes if you want a 4 hour marathon, or 5 mins for a 5hr, 3 mins for 3 hour etc...
Step 4: Run 1 lap in the opposite direction in 4 minutes.
Step 3 and 4 = 1 Yassou
Repeat step 3 and 4, so that you have done 2 yassou's,
Step 5 2 laps steady for cool down.
You may think, whats the point??? Not worth putting your kit on, however next week we do 3, and then the next week 4, etc.etc. building up to 10 Yassou's which equals about 8 miles with your warm up and cool down.
The bonus of running around Shobnall on a Tuesday night is that the Burton Rugby train in the centre pitch, so you have a nice view whilst running!

Finally blog about training
So this morning we set off from the healthcentre at 8am for a 12 mile trip to Burton and back. Probably a bit ahead of the schedule but it was nice to get some miles in the legs.
There was a distinctive pecking order for the first half of therace training run, Sian, Sam, Tina, Karen and then me but I was just biding my time, and hoping the beetroot would kick in a some point.
The route went past John Taylor high School, up through Tatenhill and turned right at the acorn towards Burton. It was gel time when we arrived at the albion, I had an orange lucozade gel that I have taken before but not for a while. Be warned gels can have side effects usually to do with digestion but we were heading for morrisons where there are toilets available.
So you go past the tip, which does smell, although that could have been the gels, and arrive at Morrisons, where the toilets were not required, then Clays Lane onto Burton road/ Branston road where you then cross over and head for the underpass.
During these 2 miles from the tip there had been a change to the pecking order, Sian, Sam and myself were making a break at the front with Karen just ahead of Tina.
We tunred left at the bridge and headed for Tatenhill, with me in front!!! At Tatenhill crossroads we turned left and headed for Barton.
Sam had only run 10 miles previously so when my watch beeped for 11 she decided to sprint up Julies hill but by now the village was in sight and we were nearly done.
We finished and all felt pretty good.
Speed training starts on Tuesday....can't wait.

Training doesn't start untill there's blood on your trainers!
Just had new trainers and there's already blood on them, and yes it's mine and not some piece of roadkill I've run through!
If all goes to plan there should be no more blood as I have learnt my lessons from the past.....are you sitting comfortably, then I shall begin.....
It was 2007 and (after entering on a whim) I was training for my first marathon, each week I ran further so each week was a PB for distance, and each week I telephoned my mum and dad to tell them how well I'd done.
We finished our run at the Barton healthcentre as usual, and I happened to look down at my feet one was covered in blood, it was all over the front, I must have really hurt it. So I went home and sat there debating whether to take off my trainer, I had my usual converastion with mum and dad and mentioned the blood.
I was going to be 30 next birthday, but they still jumped in the car and came to investigate the bloody foot. So I finally took off the trainer and the bloodied sock and yes there was blood over my foot, so we cleaned the foot and looked for the cut.
I'm not sure if I was more disapointed as the cut was so small, or more embarassed that my parents had come to patch up their wounded little soldier.
So the moral of the story, make such you cut your toenails a couple of days before your long run!!!!

Beetroot
Does beetroot improve stamina????
Last year I ate beetroot everyday in, and knocked 15 minutes off my PB for a half marathon, some may say it was the 2 stone in weight that I lost, however it might have been the beetroot!!
So how much beetroot do I need to eat, it's zero points at fat club so I do eat it to fill myself up, I was going to start taking the capsules they contain 900mg of beetroot extract but I can't work out how much that equates to in weight of beetroot. I've even spoken to a scientist about this.
Worrying about beetroot is much more fun than worrying about running 26.2miles, and yes that .2 is the most important bit.

Late starter to blogging
Not sure why I am doing this as I am not the best with the written word, but I can't let Sian have all the fun.
Devastated, and heartbroken about being rejected, I decided a visit to the most romantic city in the world was in order, London didn't want me would Paris?
So I went to the club mentioned it to a few people hoping someone would take pity on me and come and share the experience, afterall I managed to persuade someone to came to Vegas and run.
Luckily for me someone jumped at the chance and actually entered before I did, unlucky for me Katie is alot faster and if I achieve my target, which is to finish within an hour of Katie I will knock 45 minutes off my marathon PB.
(Isn't that an achievement in itself, I have a marathon PB?)
Training has started and I will update asap.
